“Party of 1, good luck.” That was the vote of confidence I was given as I entered 1 of 4 haunted houses at Universal Horror Unleashed, a new year-round horror experience at AREA15 in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas has something for everyone, and if you’re the type of visitor who thrives on the entertainment aspect of Sin City, Universal Horror Unleashed is the ideal break from the typical Strip experience.
Beyond haunted houses, the experience also offers immersive live entertainment and a curated dining program. I spoke with the creative team that helped bring this vision to life, and I surrendered to the scares, interactions, and craft cocktails so you would know whether this attraction is worth a visit.
AREA15 Has Redefined Vegas Entertainment
AREA15 is a self-guided, experiential district 10 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip that combines entertainment, art, retail, and dining. There are over 20 base attractions, including VR and AR experiences, a digital art tour, a scavenger hunt, a laser maze, an observation sky ride, and an arcade.
Tickets are available for the various experiences à la carte or bundled in 1-, 2-, or 3-day passes that offer varying access levels. Guests can choose 1, 2, or all premier attractions (Dopermeme, Dueling Axes, The Escape Game, Five Iron Golf, The Great Big Game Show, Interstellar ARC, and John Wick Experience), depending on the level of ticket they purchase. Meow Wolf Omaga Mart is included with Level 3A passes, and Universal Horror Unleashed is included with Level 3B, so if you want to experience them both, consider the 3-day Level 4 pass.
Buying a Ticket for Universal Horror Unleashed
There are 3 levels of individual tickets to Universal Horror Unleashed:
- General admission with unlimited access to each haunted house for $89
- General admission with one-time access to each haunted house for $59
- Fraidy cat admission, which has access to the entertainment and dining but not the haunted houses, for $29
The hours of operation as of May 2026 are Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 11 p.m. The last entry is 2 hours before the scheduled closing time.
Discounts are available for Nevada residents, active or retired military members, and college students. Groupon may also offer discounted general admission tickets.
Due to the intensity of the experience, Universal Horror Unleashed is not recommended for children under 13 or for those sensitive to strobe lights, fog, or high-volume sound.

Haunted Houses
Universal Horror Unleashed operates 4 haunted houses within its warehouse. Guests experience pulsed entry, meaning that they aren’t allowed to enter the house until the party ahead of them is far enough ahead. This queued entry helps keep the scares a surprise for each group. Note that houses do periodically close for breaks, and these timings are posted throughout the facility.
I visited each haunted house multiple times, and I’ve ranked my favorites in order below.
1. Scarecrow: The Reaping
This is the only house based on a fan-favorite from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood. I found that this house, inspired by the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s, enveloped me at multiple sensory levels: roots grazing against my skin, fur pelts blocking my path, and corn stalks knocking into me as the wind and fog blew them around. The experience was disorienting, even on repeat.

2. Universal Monsters
Universal’s classic monsters haunt this house, with themed passages built around Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon (along with a few more surprises). Whether brushing aside hanging bandages near the Mummy’s tomb or witnessing Frankenstein’s mad laboratory, guests don’t just observe these scenes; they navigate through them.
3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Fans can step into the 1974 movie, starting with the scent of barbecue at the gas station that leads to the roar of Leatherface’s chainsaw. Tensions ran high as I skillfully avoided becoming the next victim of the Sawyer family at their farmhouse.
4. Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer
While this was my least favorite house overall, I think it was definitely one of the most detailed. The scene and scare actors were excellent, from the early camping scenes to the hospital corridor to inside the girls’ homes. Objects rattled, looked gross, and I was definitely unsettled.
Bottom Line:
I found that how I experienced the scares was reason enough to get the unlimited entry ticket. Sometimes the first person in my group would get the full scare, and I’d be left wondering what they saw. Having unlimited entry allowed me to go back, either by myself or first in the group, to get that scare myself. I was also able to pick up details I might have missed in the past. The scares aren’t always the same each time, with scare actors using different spaces and techniques to keep things interesting.
Some house scenes featured live character dialogue, while others featured actors lip-syncing to a prerecorded track. I felt the lip-syncing detracted from the experience, and I hope the actors get more freedom to work within their scenes going forward.
Entertainment and Themed Areas
The concept behind Universal Horror Unleashed is that it is an abandoned production warehouse housing years of Universal’s forgotten horror film props, which have since become spiritually charged, attracting all manner of spooky characters.
Between visits to the haunted houses, guests can interact with the roaming characters. If you’re a fan of Universal Epic Universe, you may have had a character encounter at Dark Universe, Isle of Berk, or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. Similarly, you’ll find a variety of performers ready to scare you, have a seat with you at the bar, or chat you up as you tour through. Rather than the “scare and retreat” element more common at Halloween Horror Nights in the parks, these characters have more time to bring you into their story.

There are 4 distinct themed areas for visitors to explore:
- Dead Storage
- Jack’s Alley
- Kill Vault
- The Prop Graveyard
Dead Storage is your entry into the warehouse, filled with forgotten set pieces, and home to the Vampire Queen. Don’t forget to look up, as you might see a vampire flying overhead.
Kill Vault is closest to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre house and is home to dark and dangerous characters searching for their next victim. I watched a scene unfold between 2 actors while waiting in line, and the woman in front of me was so terrified of the reality of the experience that I kept an eye on her to make sure she recovered. Her reaction was, perhaps, more fun to watch than the actors themselves!
With creepy dolls and posed mannequins, the Prop Graveyard is the kind of area where you wonder if the eyes are following you … and in some cases, they are! Keep your eyes peeled to the scaffolding above this area, as you might be lucky to catch an impromptu dance show.
Jack’s Alley is home to a stage with scheduled performances through the night. The highlight performances are from Halloween Horror Nights icon Jack the Clown, his sidekick Chance, and their dancing carny misfits. I caught a round of “Stay or Slay,” where a contestant performed a circus act for her life. Don’t miss an opportunity to grab a selfie with Jack and Chance at the end of the show!
There is a flexible space beyond Jack’s Alley used for seasonal overlays. I waited for Feaster Grievings to open, only to find an outdoor maze that ended in a photo op with the Feaster Bunny, who had been taking pictures earlier indoors. I saw a few guests completing the popular “rotten egg hunt,” but the maze, especially during daylight, was a confusing letdown.
Food and Beverages
Universal Horror Unleashed has a full-service restaurant, a counter-service restaurant, and 2 bars. With the experience open from 4 to 11 p.m., you can grab a drink and a light bite, or even a more substantial dinner, without leaving the venue.
The Boiler is the bar at the heart of the warehouse, near the entrance to Universal Monsters. It offers cocktails with cheeky names like Graverobber, Holy Water, and Bloodsucker, to give you an idea of the theming. A lot of characters congregated in this area, since it was close to the entrance.
Roughcuts is a quick-service counter with a menu full of … body parts … kalbi-style ribs, pizza skulls (a popular seasonal park snack), crispy pork belly, and more.
“Everything in Roughcuts is based on the human anatomy. You’re going to find items like the Brains, which is a loaded baked potato, street-style with asada and cheese sauce. We also have the Heart, which is an anatomical heart that we’ve made as a cake pop. When you bite into it, it’s going to actually bleed raspberry sauce, but you’re also going to get a decadent red velvet cake inside.”

Premiere House is a Blumhouse-themed sit-down restaurant featuring tapas, tacos, sliders, salads, and flatbreads. The brisket burger sliders I had were, as you guessed it, to die for, as was the Death by Chocolate dessert.
Jack’s Alley Bar is a table-service bar behind the stage where Jack the Clown and Chance perform. This area had some of the largest booths I’ve ever seen — perfect if you’re with a group of friends.
Merchandise
The retail store has a variety of merchandise inspired by Universal’s catalog of horror films and characters. Whether you’re after a cute (but demented) Chucky doll or a poker chip magnet to commemorate your visit, you’ll find souvenir apparel, jewelry, bags, keychains, housewares, and more in the gift shop.
Final Thoughts
Universal Horror Unleashed is a year-round immersive experience that brings guests into their favorite horror movies. Unlike Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, the interactions with characters are extended rather than limited, and everything is easily walkable and indoors.
I enjoyed watching others experience sheer terror — whether it was a character sneaking up on an unsuspecting guest, a roving character inviting themselves over for a chat, or the woman completely surprised by a scripted interaction.
Buying an unlimited pass can extend your experience into several hours, and visiting the houses multiple times delivers new details and interactions each time. I didn’t find the scares too intense, and the actors did an excellent job of getting close enough to touch you without actually doing so; I never felt chased or hassled.
